Are you wanting to scare your friends with a realistic costume for Halloween this year? This tutorial will focus on creating a wicked gash in your arm, but feel free to use these tips for different types of wounds! Try out these tricks for easy and affordable special fx makeup looks. Let’s get creative!

Products you will need:

• Liquid latex

• Costume blood

• Dark eyeshadows

• Foundation + Powder

• Stipple sponge

• Assortment of makeup brushes

• Paper towels

• Scissors + tweezers

All of these products can be found at your local costume store.

Step One:

• Cut or rip paper towel to fit the area you wish to apply your “cut or gash”. This will act as your skin tearing open later. Rip paper towel ply in two and use one thin piece for more realistic effects!

Step Two:

• Smoothly apply liquid latex to area and then place your paper towel on top of the latex. Once again, apply another thin layer of latex on top of the paper towel. Blend outward into skin.

Step Three:

• When the latex is dry to the touch, apply a foundation or powder to match your skin tone. This will make everything blend better into your skin.

Step Four:

• Gently go in with your tweezers and rip a small hole in the “skin”. Start about an inch away from the edge. Once you have a rip, use your scissors and slowly cut upward until your happy with the results of your gash.

Step Five:

• Apply black or maroon eyeshadow inside the gash, this will add depth and more realistic effects. Blend eyeshadow outward onto your actual skin to bring everything together.

Step Six:

• Time to get bloody! Using a medium sized angled brush, dip into the costume blood and start applying in the center of your gash. Work outward and blend into the fake skin.

• Grab your stipple sponge and dip into blood. Drag outward to create scratches and this also will help blend in the latex a little more!
