Curly Girl Tutorial

Styling Tips For Curly Hair

I’ve always thought of curly hair as “frizzy and unmanageable”, that is until I tried the following hair care routine.

I’ve learned how to effortlessly style my curls so they hold for days! I’m not implying that this will work for everyone, but it has worked for me and majority of my “curly girl” guests as well.

I will be using R+Co products, which have been amazing to work with and have totally transformed my curls.

Step 1

Shampoo & Condition

  • Shampoo thoroughly with R+Co Atlantis shampoo. This product is very moisturizing and a little goes a long way. Rinse & repeat if necessary.

  • Condition ends with R+Co Atlantis moisturizing conditioner. Massage leftover product into scalp and start to comb the curls with your fingers. Rinse in cool water.

Step 2

Curl Prep

  • Set your part using your hands or a pick, do not brush the curls.

  • Spray in R+Co ONE prep spray to detangle and prep the hair. This will help comb out any tangles without pulling the curl out.

  • Cocktail R+Co TWISTER & TINSEL together and start to scrunch hair in an upward motion. This will help shape and form your curl pattern. Section and twirl product into hair for more coiled curls.

Step 3

Dry Time

  • After extensive towel drying, grab your blow dryer + diffuser. Work with medium heat and start in small sections.

  • Holding your hair up toward the scalp with the diffuser will create the most volume for your curls, without creating frizz.

  • Tilt your head back and work in small sections for easier access to all of your hair. The key is not to over dry, as this will create frizz.

Step 4

Finishing

  • Mist R&Co SAIL soft wave spray all over your hair and scrunch in. This will set your curls and will also lay down any frizz created from blow drying.

  • Air dry the remainder and you will be left with soft, natural, beachy curls.

A Little Bit of Product Knowledge

R+Co products are formulated without parabens, sulfates, mineral oil and petrolatum (these things are all damaging to your hair. They usually cause irritation to the scalp, dryness, color fading, etc). They are all vegetarian, cruelty-free, gluten-free and color safe*

  • ONE prep spray: really an all in one spray. It protects your hair from heat and sun exposure, and also ONE evens out the porosity in your hair so that products adhere evenly.*

  • TWISTER curl primer: a creamy, lightweight primer for your curls, adding moisture to ensure shiny hair. Leaves curls soft, and never crunchy like some mousses and gels.

  • TINSEL smoothing oil: a non-greasy, lightweight styling oil. This product is great for taming any frizz. It also leaves your curls insanely shiny.

  • SAIL soft wave spray: a 360 degree aerosol, sail soft wave spray ensures effortless coverage and natural looking waves. Although very lightweight, it still adds texture and volume.

I hope this step-by-step has helped you guys reinvent your curls! If I had to choose one R+Co styling product for my hair, it would definitely be TWISTER. What are some of your favorite “curly girl” products?

Hair Product You Can’t Live Without? R+Co Twister curl primer! It literally gives my curls life!

Tell Us A Little About Your Hair History! I started in the hair industry fresh out of high school. I took courses to help stack my hours so I wouldn’t have to attend the full year of Cosmetology school. I started my career at 18 years old, by the time I was 21 I had an established enough clientele, and was fortunate enough to open my own salon suite! I was self employed for roughly 2 years and then decided to join Local Honey’s team, part-time. Never would i have dreamed that i would close my suite and start at LH full-time.. But, it was the best decision I’ve ever made. I’ve been able to fulfill a dream of mine while being at Local Honey, which is salon education. I was blessed to receive advanced education in color theory and technique to share with our apprenticeship program. Hair has always been a passion of mine, and now that Ihave so much creativity and inspiration around me, I love it even more.
