How to: Holiday Hair Ponytail

From Thanksgiving to New Years Day, there are so many different parties, activities, functions, gatherings…you get the picture. It is hard to find time to make your look for each event unique, doable and time sensitive. I have just the style to help. This modern and fun ponytail is perfect to add a slight edge to any look.

Hair Prep

This look is perfect for any type of hair texture or type. The more texture the better so if you feel the need to add some loose waves as a prep that will only benefit you more, but not a necessary step. Then add a good texturizing product that is also workable with the hair. I recommend R and Co’s Soft Wave Spray or Oribe’s Texturizing Spray.

Step One

First, section hair as if you are going to put it in to a half up pony. You can either pull the hair all the way back from the hairline or have a part. It is your preference here. Use a small rubber band to hold the hair in place. Then take a small amount of hair from underneath the ponytail and wrap it around the elastic. You can either bobby pin it in place hidden under the pony or tuck it in the the rubber band on the underneath side.

Step Two

With a teasing come or teasing brush of your choice, tease the hair in the ponytail towards the top, focusing mostly on the underneath side. Feel free to add more texture spray. Once done teasing expand the ponytail to your liking.

Step Three

Gather the ponytail you created and the remainder of the hair and tie in to a low pony with another elastic. Repeat wrapping around a small amount of hair to cover the elastic. Repeat Step Two

At this point you can leave as is, or continue this pattern for as long as your hair or desired look can.

Step Four

Finish with a flexible hair spray such as R and Co’s Outer space as texture is key, not necessarily extreme hold. I would also recommend using a shine spray such as R and Co Trophy or Oribe’s Shine Light Reflecting Spray.

Nashville lifestyle blogger, Anna Danigelis used this textured pony to accentuate her awesome plaid pants and black turtleneck for a holiday party with friends.

Tell Us A Little About Your Hair History! My hair stylist journey started all the way back when I was 12 years old when I forced my baby cousin to sit there so I could crimp her hair and put hundreds of butterfly clips all in her hair. As I grew up that passion never left and I was that girl who did all her friends hair and makeup for prom and other school functions. However, I didn’t professionally pursue my hair stylist career until I was 28 years old. I was fresh out of the loss of a job and realized that I hated being in corporate America anyways. And my mom suggested I go back to beauty school like I wanted to when I was in high school. Now 4 years later and a whirlwind education I am finally able to pursue my dreams and loving every minute of it.

What does YOU ARE OK. mean to you? What YOU ARE OK means to me is that no matter where you are at in life it is where you are supposed to be, how you are supposed to feel and that it is enough.
